Day 1: The First Snow
Woke up to a white world! The first snow of the year fell silently last night. Everything outside my window is covered in a thick, fluffy blanket. I rushed out after breakfast and made a tiny snowman with pebble eyes and a twig smile. My fingers froze, but my heart felt so warm. Mom made hot chocolate later. The marshmallows melted into sweet clouds on top. A perfect lazy winter day.
Day 2: Grandma’s Kitchen
Visited Grandma today. Her house always smells like cinnamon and old books. We made dumplings together. Mine were all sorts of weird shapes—some like fat ducks, some like flat pancakes. Grandma just laughed and said they had “personality.” She told me stories about Dad when he was my age, getting into trouble. I learned that “fold the wrapper gently” is harder than any math problem.
Day 3: Book Fort
Didn’t go out. Built a fort in the living room with all the couch cushions and blankets. Took my stack of unread books inside my “castle.” Finished a mystery novel in one go. The wind howled outside, but I was in my own cozy world, solving crimes with the detective. Only came out when the smell of popcorn lured me. Sometimes, doing nothing is the best plan.
Day 4: Reunion Laughter
Big family dinner! Aunts, uncles, cousins—the house was bursting with noise and laughter. The table was a mountain of food. My little cousin showed me his new magic tricks; he “made” a coin disappear (it just fell on the floor). We played board games until late. I lost badly but didn’t care. The room was so warm with all the talking and joking. These loud, messy moments are my favorite.
Day 5: Old Friends, New Stories
Met up with Xiaoming and Lily at the café. We hadn’t seen each other since school ended. We talked for hours—about boring homework, funny teachers, silly dreams. Lily is learning guitar; Xiaoming tried baking and burned cookies. We shared one huge slice of chocolate cake. It felt like no time had passed at all. True friends are like that. You just pick up where you left off.
Day 6: A Walk Alone
Took a long walk by the frozen lake this afternoon. Everything was quiet, just the crunch of my boots on the snow. Saw a few sparrows hopping on bare branches. The sky was pale gray, like a blank sheet of paper. I thought about nothing and everything. Sometimes you need this kind of quiet, just you and your own thoughts. Came home with cold ears but a clear mind.
Day 7: Packing & A Flickering Candle
Last day of the holiday. Spent the morning packing my school bag. Found a half-finished sketch from last semester under my bed. In the evening, the power went out for an hour! We lit candles. Mom told stories by candlelight, her face glowing in the soft light. It was like an adventure. When the lights came back, everything looked brighter somehow. The holiday is ending, but these little flames of memory are staying with me. Ready for tomorrow.
