Good morning, everyone! The topic of my speech today is about privacy and trust between parents and teenagers. As we grow up, many of us have experienced the moment when we find our diaries or school bags have been searched by our parents. This is the issue I want to discuss.
I understand that parents care about us deeply and they may think checking our personal things is a way to protect us from harm or bad influences. They worry about our safety, our friends, and our studies. This comes from love and responsibility. However, I believe that secretly looking through our diaries or bags is not the right method.
First, everyone, including teenagers, has the right to privacy. Our diaries are where we keep our honest thoughts, dreams, and secrets. They are our private space. When this space is invaded without permission, we feel disrespected and hurt. It’s like someone breaking into your room and reading your letters.
Second, trust is the foundation of a good relationship. If parents don’t trust us and feel they must check on us secretly, it creates distance. We might start hiding things more, or we might stop writing diaries altogether. This doesn’t help communication; it makes it worse. Instead, parents can talk to us openly about their concerns. We can have honest conversations about our lives, friends, and problems.
So, what can we do? For parents, please try to trust us more. Give us some private space. If you are worried, just ask us directly. For us teenagers, we should also understand our parents’ love and try to communicate with them more. Tell them about our school life and share our happy moments and worries. This way, we can build a bridge of trust, not a wall of secrecy.
